Key 2026 Employer Deadlines Every Business Must Meet

Staying compliant with payroll and tax obligations is essential for every South African employer. Missing deadlines can lead to penalties, unnecessary stress, and potential scrutiny from South African Revenue Service.

Here are the key employer deadlines for 2026 that you should have firmly on your radar:

Important Dates to Remember

6 March 2026
Employers were required to submit their February 2026 EMP201 earlier than usual, as the 7th fell on a Saturday.

By 14 March 2026
IRP5 certificates must be issued to terminated employees within 14 days of their termination date. This ensures employees can meet their own tax obligations without delays.

By 29 April 2026
All current employees must receive their IRP5/IT3(a) certificates within 60 days after the end of the tax year (28 February).

1 April – 31 May 2026
This is the official EMP501 reconciliation period, where employers must submit their annual reconciliation along with all IRP5/IT3(a) certificates.

⚠️ Why These Deadlines Matter

Failure to meet these deadlines can result in:

Administrative penalties
